Space 1 - The Guard Chamber

The Guard Chamber is our largest event space, set amongst the spectacular museum exhibits at the centre of Canterbury’s iconic Westgate Towers, England’s largest surviving medieval gateway.

There are a number of layout options to suit your event (see below) and a private Turret Bar just off the main room. The adjoining Debtors Room & Roof Terrace is also available for events requiring food or additional space. A delicious buffet menu is available from our kitchen.

A cinema option for private screenings is also available, perfect for Children’s parties, special celebrations and film premieres!

Hire the guard chamber

• Capacity of 60 people standing with 6 illuminated high tables & 30 stools, or 40 folding chairs for seated functions, or 26 deckchairs for screenings.

• Available 7 days a week (event time from 8pm up to 1:30am, setup from 6:30pm).

• Private Turret Bar off the main chamber (draught, spirits & bottled products with card payment only).

• Multiple seating / setup options shown below. Suitable for weddings, celebrations, meetings, screenings, presentations, hospitality, brand experiences etc.

• The Debtors Room & Roof Terrace is available in addition for events wishing to enjoy our event buffet menu or that need extra space (food cannot be consumed in the Guard Chamber).

• Bose audio system included with Bluetooth connectivity.

• Projection available on request via HDMI connection.

• DJ equipment available to hire (we are unable to allow 3rd party DJ equipment), please click here for more information, DJ is not included.

• Private Tower WCs nearby.

• Please note:

  • The Guard Chamber is on the second floor, accessed via stairs.

  • We do not allow commercial ticketed events.

  • We can only allow free-standing decorations (tape, blu tack or any other fixings are not permitted in the Tower).

  • No sparklers, naked flames, glitter or confetti are permitted.

  • We do not use glassware in the Tower (other than welcome sparkling drinks) and instead use bi0degradable plastic cups.

• Pricing:

  • Guard Chamber £400 - includes a bartender & gate supervisor (fri/sat only).

  • Debtors Room & Roof Terrace additional £50 (complimentary if ordering a buffet).

  • DJ equipment £100 (please note DJ not included and DJ must use Rekordbox, see PDF for details).

  • Buffet menu (subject to change) £12 per person, served in the Debtors Room (20 person minimum). Pre-order must be received a minimum of 5 days before your event.

Space 2 - The Parade Room

The Parade Room is our second largest event space, celebrating the history of Canterbury’s former police station - with a private bar & contemporary British design. Built in 1907 as a room for Police Constables to conduct their daily briefing and perform the process of ‘parading on’, a feature of police life for many decades, it then became the concert hall for Kent Music School and is now a spectacular event space.

• Capacity of 50 people standing (36 seated with a fixed furniture layout).

• Available Sunday - Friday between 12pm-1am & Saturday between 12pm-6pm, for a minimum of 20 people.

• Suitable for celebrations, drinks, dining, meetings, hospitality, brand experiences etc.

• Private cocktail bar (card payment only & capacity dependent).

• Please note The Parade Room is on the first floor, accessed via a flight of stairs.

• Pricing:

  • Exclusive use charge for groups of 20+ £240 for food or drinks.

  • Meetings for groups up to 36 seated £45 per hour.

Space 3 - The Debtors Room

The Debtors Room & Roof Terrace is our brand new smaller event space with its own roof terrace! The room was home to male Debtors’ imprisoned until they could clear their debt, it’s now a beautiful space featuring a large square table fashioned out of three restored cell benches found rotting away in one of the Tower’s turrets. It has an adjoining Roof Terrace and access to the Tower WCs one floor down.

• Capacity of 10 people seated at the central table (more around perimeter if needed).

• Available in slots 7 days a week (from 12pm - 1:30am - see booking window for options).

• Please note experiences are only bookable a minimum of 24 hours before your event. Cocktail masterclasses are only bookable a minimum of 7 days before your event due to staffing.

• Located up the main Tower stairwell on the second floor (with Private Tower WCs nearby).

• Adjoining Roof Terrace.

• Unique Karaoke System for posh karaoke available on request.

• Suitable for cocktail masterclasses, karaoke, events, meetings, presentations, training, brand experiences etc.

• Buffet available when part of a Guard Chamber event.

• App ordering & push for service button.

• Screen for presentations (Apple AirPlay), whiteboard also available on request.

• Pricing:

  • Daytime meetings £35 per hour. Maximum of 15 people (10 seated at the central table).

  • Evening events (karaoke, drinks, cocktail masterclasses) please see the booking window below for options.

Space 4 - The Cells

We have 3 beautifully restored Cells and the former Cell Guard Room available to hire for celebrations for food or drinks. Reservations can be made online only using the Book Now button, there’s a range of pre-selected drinks packages to add to your reservation so that they’re ready to enjoy upon arrival.

• Capacity of 8 people seated in the Cells and 10 people seated in the Cell Guard Room.

• Available in slots 7 days a week (from 5pm-7:45pm, 8pm-10:45pm, 11pm-1:45am)

• Located at the end of the Cell Corridor with WCs located nearby.

  • Cells £80 per slot and welcome drinks packages ranging from £40-£70.
